The New Macedon Rangers

new macedon rangersThe New Macedon Rangers are a dynamic string band featuring members based in North Carolina and the Macedon Ranges of Victoria. Their compelling interpretation of old-time, bluegrass, and early country songs captures the essence of these genres while original songs and instrumentals keep the traditions moving forward.
Ashlee Watkins is a singer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist originally from Newcastle, NSW. She has performed in Australia and the US as a member of the NC based string band the Haywood Billy Goats and also with her band the New Macedon Rangers. Described by fiddler Bob Herring as having “it”, her powerfully unadorned vocals posses a timeless quality that evokes an uncommon emotional poignance.
North Carolina native Andrew Small holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University and has toured with Sierra Hull, Mandolin Orange, Chris Henry, and the North Carolina Symphony. A tasteful and accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Andrew is an Australian National Bluegrass Mandolin Champion and he has won prizes in old-time fiddle from the Galax and Mt Airy Fiddlers’ Conventions. He has performed extensively in Australia with his bands One Up, Two Down, the Haywood Billy Goats, and the New Macedon Rangers.
